The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of Egypt announced a 3-day mourning period after 73 people were killed in football violence at a stadiium in Port Said, RIA Novosti reports.
Samir Zaher, head of the Egyptian Football Federation, halted national football games after the disorders at Port Said.
FIFA President Joseph Blatter expressed condolences to the families of fans who had died at the match.
Manuel Jose, the coach of the Al-Ahly FC from Portugal, said that he was beaten up at the match. He said that some people were killed in the locker room they escaped to. The coach said he feared for his life.
Al-Masry won 3:1. Its fans started attacking the fans of Al-Ahly and attacked their coaches. Jose was saved by security.
There were a total of 40,000 fans at the stadium. Most fans who were killed were supporting the Cairo team.
