Son of Georgia's first president stops hunger-strike

The son of the first Georgian President, Zviad Gamsakhurdia Tsotne,
who is under conviction, stopped his hunger-strike on Tuesday, News
Georgia
reports, citing his lawyer Keti Bekauri.

According to Bekauri, Tsotne Gamsakhurdia stopped his hunger-strike
and started taking food he received from the Georgian Patriarch.

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was convicted in April, sentenced to 9.5 years
imprisonment for attempted murder and illegal storage and carrying of
firearms. He was arrested on 27th October 2009, accused of injuring
his neighbor David Badjelidze. Gamsakhurdia denies his guilt, calling
it political persecution. He started a hunger-strike on May 3rd,
saying that he is pressurized and demanding protection of his rights.

Despite the end of the strike, his lawyer Keti Bekauri will still send
a special report to the European Court of Human Rights. Bekauri says
that the condition of his client is so bad that the intervention of
the European Court of Human Rights is necessary.
