Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan failed to
hear any legal obstacles against amendments to the law on language,
Panorama reports.
The People’s Assembly held a session on the hearings in the first
reading of the bill and tomorrow they will have a vote. The minister
presented the changes to the law, followed by critical comments in the
government building.
The minister presented the changes on the number of school students
and the age at which they can study in foreign languages. According to
the amendments, Armenia will have 11 foreign language schools. Two
schools in Dilijan and Jermuk will be private, with studies there
starting in the 7th grade, the other 9 schools will be established
based on inter-state and intergovernmental agreements and will allow
studies from 9th grade.
