Tehran exhibits piece of Ka’aba curtain

Iran’s Niavaran Historical and Cultural Complex has displayed a piece of Kiswah, the black silk and gold-embroidered curtain used to cover the holy Ka'aba, Press TV reports.

The piece is 104x315 centimeters and adorned with golden arabesque patterns. It was donated to Iran by Saudi officials in 1985.

Tehran’s Niavaran complex has exhibited the piece on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of the first Shia Imam, Imam Ali (PBUH), which falls on the 21st day of the holy month of Ramadan.

In the past the Kiswah was divided and distributed among the families known as the Ka'aba curtain holders. Later the Saudi Arabian government decided to follow the tradition and send the Kiswah to different Muslim countries as a gift.
