Russian physicist Sergey Kapitsa dies

Sergey Kapitsa, a notable Russian scientist, member of the RAS, a TV host and promoter of science, has died at the age of 84, Interfax reports.

Sergey Kapitsa was the son of Nobel Prize winner P.L. Kapitsa, a grandson of A.N. Krylov, Russian mathematician and shipbuilder, grand nephew of French biochemist V.N. Henry, great grandson of geographer I.I. Stebnitsky, older brother of geologist A.P. Kapitsa.

Sergey Kapitsa was a PhD in Physics and Mathematics, a senior scientist of the Institute for Physical Problems of P.L. Kapitsa, a professor, author of 4 books, dozens of articles, 14 inventions and 1 discovery. He proved hyperbolic population growth until year 1 AD.

He was hosting the “Ochevidnoye – Neveroyatnoye” (Obvious – Incredible) TV show in 1973 – 2012, popularizing science in the Soviet Union, Russia and post-Soviet states.
