"Younger brother" of Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Saviour to be
completed in Pyatigorsk
By mid-December, reconstruction of the
Spassky Cathedral, built in Pyatigorsk under Nicholas I, will be completed according to a project
similar to that of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. This was
announced by the Bishop Feofilakt of Pyatigorsk and Cherkessia.
This cathedral was initially built by the famous architect Konstantin
Ton, the author of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, and was, as
with many other churches in Russia, destroyed in the 1930s. Reconstruction started 10 years ago, but was stopped for financial
reasons.
"This December our eparchy will be visited by Patriarch Kirill,
and by the time of his visit the reconstruction will be completed,"
RIA Novosti cites Feofilakt, who noted that a special hall in the basement of the
reconstructed cathedral will be devoted to educational activities
for young people.
