Armenian Ombudsman Armen Arutiun positively rated the bill to open foreign language schools in the republic in an interview to News Armenia.
The Armenian parliament passed the bill on amendments to the law on language and education in the first reading on June 24th 2010. The first version of the bill was criticized and followed by protests.
The Ombudsman believes that the arguments against the bill have nothing in common with reality. He said that they should not set foreign language schools against national language schools, the system of education needs improving in general.
Arutiun mentioned Georgia as an example, saying that only 65% of the population are Georgians, yet they open up such schools. He considers that opening foreign language schools will bring positive elements from other cultures and broaden the outlook of society.
