Georgian defense minister may supervise military parade

 

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said that Defense Minister Irakly Alasania may be in charge of the military parade on the Independence Day of May 26, News Georgia reports.

The government considered cancelling the parade due to its expenses. Saakashvili considers the parade a symbol of Georgian statehood.

Saakashvili said that he may visit the Georgian troops in Afghanistan to mark the Independence Day.

The president believes that the Georgian army saved the country in August 2008 and noted that the country was integrating in the NATO and Europe.
