Russia does not intend to discuss the situation in the Caucasus, the Deputy Defense Minister, Anatoly Antonov, said on Thursday at an international conference on European security.
According to him, every time he discusses the prospects of a new treaty on conventional weapons, 90% of his colleagues point out that they needed Russia's assurances that it will "withdraw from the Caucasus."
"We are not going to discuss the situation in the Caucasus during any negotiations," RIA News quotes Antonov.
In addition, according to Antonov, at the conclusion of a new agreement Western countries seek to establish transparency of what is happening in the Russian armed forces. However, the Deputy Minister of Defence claims, the existing mechanisms are sufficient, and if necessary, Russia is ready to improve them, or add some new elements.
