It is possible that in the near future one of the streets of Moscow will get the name of the former president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. The proposal to the authorities in Moscow came from the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin. Sechin suggests that Projected Passage 5509, located between Leningrad Avenue and Aviation Engineer Mikoyan Street, could be named in honour of Hugo Chavez.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez died in March this year from cancer. According to Russian law, streets can be named after a person 10 years following their death, with exceptions only possible in case of the personal decree of the president.
Previously, an initiative to name one of the streets of Moscow in honour of the leader of Venezuela came from members of the Communist Party and the chairman of the Moscow City Duma, Vladimir Platonov.
