Russian sanitary chief accuses Georgia of sending animals with plague

 

Russian Chief Sanitary Inspector Gennady Onishchenko said that the African swine fever in Russia had been caused by Georgia, Interfax reports.

The official noted that the infection had been brought by Georgian boars migrating in autumn 2007. First deaths were boars were registered in Chechnya, followed by deaths of pigs since July 2008.

Tbilisi insists that there have been no cases of African swine fever in Georgia after 2007.
