Alexander Kvitashvili, President of the Tbilisi State University named after Ivane Javakhishvili, resigned yesterday due to amendments to the law on higher education, News Georgia reports.
The United National Movement criticized the bill. The document changes the procedure of electing an acting president of the university. The prime minister, rather than the government, will now appoint presidents of the university. Candidates for the position do not need to be doctors of science.
