Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan requires longer imprisonment for former head of Customs Control Committee

The Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan has lodged a petition with the court to toughen the penalty for the former head of the Customs Control Committee (CTC) of the Ministry of Finance, Serik Baimaganbetov, to 12 years in prison.

"I ask to cancel the sentence of a specialized inter-district criminal court of Astana from January 8, 2013 in respect of Baimaganbetov on Article 307, part 2 of the Criminal Code and to recognize Baimaganbetov guilty under Article 307, part 2 and sentence him to three years imprisonment. According to article 311 of the Criminal Code, for him to be sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property," Trend  quotes the words of the prosecutor, Yerkegali Zakirov.

According to the document, the prosecution demands, in accordance with Article 58 of the Criminal Code, by absorption of a less strict punishment into the more severe, to determine a final penalty of 12 years imprisonment in a penal colony with confiscation of property.

Earlier, Serik Baimaganbetov was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty of accepting bribes on a large scale, namely, $55 thousand for the appointment to a leadership position in one of the departments of the Customs Committee. His defense has filed an appeal against the verdict.
