An earthquake measuring 4.2 points on the Richter scale struck the city of Akhl in the Iranian province of Fars at 11:29 local time, Iribnews reports. There is no information about victims yet.
Last week, underground quakes measuring 5.7 points were recorded in the city of Torbat-e-Kheyderiye in Khurasan-Rezavi province. There were 170 victims.
Underground earthquakes are common in Iran. The strongest earthquake happened in December 2003 in the city of Bam, south-east of Kirman province, killing 31,000 people and destroying an ancient fortress.
