Caucasian youngsters' problems with integration in Russian society aren't based on social unjustice, public figures say

According to writers Alexander Ibragimov and Magomed Sultanov-Barson, the problems young people in the Caucasus are facing while trying to integrate into Russian society are not based on social unjustice.

"There are certain ways to improve one's social status, but the whole concept of success has been distorted. Nowadays people are disorientated," Ibragimov says.

"These days people believe that success is simply when you can buy an expensive car or get promoted. I think that the real success is to turn from a boy into a man, to start a family, to raise kids," he says.

According to Sultan-Barsov the main problem is that the elite is not trying to establish a common philosophical basis, that there is no common cultural identity in Russia.

"No one is trying to use philosophy as a key to establishing a common all-Russian inter-ethnic identity," he says.
