Yevgeny Minchenko, Director of the International Institute for Political Expertise, said that Unity Day in Russia would be more stable and clear for the population if it had a certain tradition behind it.
The expert noted that many people forget about the origins of the Unity Day. He believes that six good films and about 10 series, some exciting books and staged performances would compensate the flaw. Minchenko added that citizens lacked ideology, fundamental propaganda and rituals for November 4.
Minchenko reminded that the historic event had nothing to do with multinationality of the country. The Unity Day said that he saw no connections for Chechens or, for example, Kabardians to mark the November 4.
The expert proposed renaming it into the Day of National Reconsiliation and Consent set for November 7 the way it had been during presidency of Boris Yeltsin. Minchenko assumes that it should have traditions of the Tsarist Russia and Soviet Russia. He concluded that attention should be focused on the idea of a nation.
