On November 4 Russia should not as much celebrate the Day of National Unity as work on achieving the true unity of the peoples in the country, the head of the department of journalistic skills of the Moscow State Literary University, Alan Kasaev told in an interview to Vestnik Kavkaza.
Kasaev stressed that in the last 400 years, since the expulsion of the Poles from Moscow celebrated on November 4, the country has gone through significant changes and is not very different from Russia in the Time of Troubles. It has a different ethnic composition, borders and territory. For this reason, many people in Russia do not understand the idea of the holiday. "In fact, the ideology of the holiday had to be changed a long time ago," Kasaev said.
Kasaev said that the holiday could be dedicated to the idea of unity of different nationalities within Russia. This would fill the holiday with a real meaning.
