The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Israel, Faina Kirshenbaum (Yisrael Beiteinu), and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, signed in Tbilisi an agreement on a visa-free regime between the two countries. The signing ceremony was also attended by the Israeli ambassador to Georgia, Yuval Fuchs. The agreement will enter into force after ratification by the parliaments of both countries.

"This agreement is the result of close and fruitful cooperation, as well as friendly and stable relations between our two countries. This is a very important agreement that will intensify the cooperation between Israel and Georgia in many areas”, Faina Kirshenbaum said.

In turn, Irakli Garibashvili, who will soon be appointed head of the government of Georgia, said that the introduction of a visa-free regime is an important step in relations between the two countries, which will contribute to the development of tourism and trade.

Looking back, the question of the abolition of the visa regime between the countries was raised during a recent visit to Georgia by Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin. However, no one among the politicians or the officials thought that both parties will be able to settle all the issues related with this solution so quickly.

During her visit, Faina Kirshenbaum attended the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected President of Georgia, Georgi Margvelashvily, as the official representative of the State of Israel.
