Russian singer Kobzon calls for consolidation

Iosif Kobzon, a famous Russian singer, member of parliament and People’s Artist of the USSR, told Vestnik Kavkaza that a sincere love of the country should be confirmed with actions, not just words, in the North Caucasus and Trans-Caucasus.

He noted that there had been no ethnic hatred among thousands of people gathered around Nord Ost during the conflict. People had only expressed empathy to the hostages. Kobzon believes that all terrorist acts and interethnic conflicts today are a result of poor spiritual culture. As an example, the singer, being a co-chair of the Forum of Spiritual Culture, pointed out the promotion of Kazakh national cultures. The Forum had two sessions in Astana. Kobzon said that TV channels were broadcasting shows about national culture and tolerance 24 hours a day.

He noted that ethnic hatred was the worst thing possible. To prevent this, parents, nurseries and schools should teach them about different religions by professional teachers, such as a priest, mufti or rabbi, he explains. Kobzon concluded that it would encourage people to respect each other.
