Father Frost, Snow Maiden and Christmas trees have become personae non gratae on Tajik television. In the near future audiences will not see them, according to Asia Plus.
The information was confirmed by the first deputy chairman of the Broadcasting Committee of Tajikistan, Sadiddali Siddikov. According to him, the aforementioned New Year's attributes are irrelevant to the national traditions of the republic, RBC reports.
The decision not to show the people Father Frost or Christmas trees was made by the TV channels, and there were no orders "from above" on this subject, Siddikov said.
It is noteworthy that a Christmas tree will be installed in the center of Dushanbe, and President Emomali Rahmon will address the nation on January 1.
In recent years the idea of the expediency of New Year celebrations is being discussed in Tajikistan. Representatives of the Muslim clergy believe that the country must live within its religious calendar, which does not coincide with the traditional one. However, the mosque does not insist on its position.
Looking back a year ago, VK reported that the same fate befell the heroes of New Year in Uzbekistan. Father Frost, Snow Maiden and other characters of Russian fairy tales disappeared from Uzbek TV channels according to the "recommendations" of officials in the wake of "identity and the rise of national consciousness".
