All Moscow churches organized prayers for the victims. TV channels will cancel all advertising and entertainment programs.
According to the latest information, 129 people including a Chinese and a Tajik citizen with head and chest injuries, are still being treated in 15 Moscow hospitals. 42 of them are in grave condition. Georgy Golukhov, the head of the Moscow Healthcare Department, has urged doctors to stay in the city until all gravely injured patients get discharged. A total of 146 people were hospitalized.
21 out of 22 people killed in the accident have been identified. Six of them are foreigners. The Moscow government will pay families of the deceased 1 million rubles. Injured people will get up to 500,000 rubles, depending on their injuries. The Moscow Metro has paid relatives of the deceased passengers 2 million rubles each and 1 million rubles to survivors. The government will give individual help to people injured in the accident.
Investigative and rescue work at the subway line was concluded yesterday. All passengers were found. Minister for Emergencies Vladimir Puchkov gave 30 hours to clear the subway of damaged carriages and restore traffic. Investigators rule out any terrorist involvement in the tragedy. They have three theories for the cause of the accident: malfunctioning of the rail switch, sagging of rails or problems with a carriage.
160 buses of Mosgortrans were dispatched to transport passengers from Molodezhnaya to Kiyevskaya stations. The closed section of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line can also be bypassed using the Filevskaya line.
