The new academic year has started in Azerbaijan and Georgia. This year 4,546 schools in Azerbaijan will be teaching 1,359 900 pupils. There will be 169,498 teachers.
36 higher education centers will be teaching 116,930 students, private
ones will be teaching 19,430 students. State higher education centers
have 12,800 teachers, private - 2,090.
In 2010 the republic finished construction of buildings for 49 new
schools for 17,434 pupils, additional corps were built in 10 schools
for 1,418 pupils and 3 pre-schools were built.
7 schools, 2 professional lyceums, kindergartens had major repairs.
356 schools, 9 professional lyceums, 32 pre-schools and 5
out-of-school education centers had repairs.
The authorities started construction of 25 new schools for 6 980 pupils.
Georgia is starting education reforming this year, the primary goals
are quality of education and discipline, Georgian Minister of
Education and Science Dmitry Shashki said.
The academic year in Georgia will always start on September 15 and end
on June 15, except for first graders and twelfth graders, who end
their studies on May 20. There will be two school terms, the first one
ends on December 24 and the second - on June 15.
There will be a new mark system consisting of 3 components: class
work, homework and final work. Fifth graders or higher will have a 10
point mark system, except for PE lessons. Skipping lessons will affect
the final mark.
In 2011 Georgia will start realizing the 'Safe school' concept. This
year Tbilisi, Rustavi, Gori, Poti and Kutaisi installed from 9 to 32
monitoring cameras. There will be 3 people responsible for order at
schools. There will be $55 dollar fines for pupils going to school
without uniform.
