Sergey Arkhangelov, an ex-director of the Museum for Modern History of Russia, said, commenting on appearance of USSR Hero Shamsulla Aliyev’s monument in a garbage pile, that people without origins were betraying themselves. He believes that it was probably a setback of upbringing, poor development of patriotism or national conscience.
Arkhangelov said that he had visited the Belgorod Oblast and Yakutia and had seen many historical sites and clubs, museums in excellent condition.
Yuri Vyazemsky, a historian, the host of the Umniki i Umnitsy TV show, called the treatment of the monument an act of vandalism because it was disrespect towards a hero who had died protecting his homeland. He expressed surprise that such thing could have happened in Dagestan. The historian hopes that people in the Caucasus will continue bringing up young people properly.
