Russia is marking the Day of People's Unity today, dedicated to the liberation of Moscow from foreign intervention in 1612. Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky formed consolidated militia and saved the country from destruction.
A meeting under the slogan "We Are United" will be held in Moscow at 2.00pm. About 50,000 people, including officials of parties, the All-Russian People's Front, figures of public, culture, science, art and athletics will take part in the meeting, according to Mikhail Yemelyanov, deputy head of the A Fair Russia faction in the parliament, TASS reports.
The LDPR parliamentary faction proposes the "Russia Without Troubles" slogan. The party says that people should preserve their common historical, spiritual and territorial unity.
Over 5,000 people from CIS countries will gather for the 10th "We Are United" festival at the Kremlin Palace. The Kuban Cossack Choir, the Choir of Pyatnitsky, the Choir of the Sretensky Monastery, Russian celebrities Tamara Gvertsiteli, Sofia Rotaru, the Choir of Turetsky and the Pesnyary Ensemble will perform.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will award foreigners with the Order of Friendship and the Pushkin Medal for their contribution to strengthening peace, friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding, development of culture, art, education, humanitarian sciences, literature and the preservation and study of Russia's cultural heritage.
Putin will also lay flowers at the memorial to Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky on Red Square. Officials of religious organizations and youth organizations will take part in the ceremony.
Putin will attend the "My History. Rurikovichi" interactive exhibition with Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia Kirill.
