Criminal case instituted into imprisonment of journalist at Leps' concert in Tbilisi
The Georgian Interior Ministry has instituted a case into the illegal confinement (Art. 143 of the Criminal Code of Georgia) of correspondent of the Georgian TV channel "Maestro" Nino Metreveli and her cameraman, that took place during a concert given by Russian singer of Georgian origin Grigory Leps (Lepsveridze) on December 7 in the Palace of Sports, Tbilisi. However, the concert organizers are not presented in the case as defendants, as was reported earlier.
"The criminal case is not against the organizers of the concert, as was reported by some media, but based on a case of illegal confinement. An investigation into the incident has already been started, employees of the Maestro broadcasting company and the organizers of the concert have already been questioned. The results of the investigation will be announced later," a statement by Interfax reads.
Metreveli said that after the interview with the artist, which consisted of three questions, the organizers of the event locked her and her cameraman into a room with a security guard.
According to one of the organizers of the concert, Lela Samniashvili, the correspondent was simply asked to stay in the room to find out why she had asked Leps questions concerning politics (about his position on Ukraine), violating a previous agreement.
