The new Code of Administrative Offenses entered into force in Kazakhstan from 1 January 2015. Now the liability for drunk driving in Kazakhstan will be not an administrative, but a criminal one. This was announced during a briefing at the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Kazakhstan by the head of the committee of administrative police, Alibek Kenispaev.
Kenispaev noted that the current administrative legislation for the use of a mobile phone when driving is a fine of 5 MCI. For a second offense there is a fine of 10 MCI.
"It is a misconception to say that this rule does not work. This norm really is working. In comparison with 2013, in 2014 detection of these type of violations increased by 60%. About 170 thousand administrative protocols for the use of mobile phones while driving transport were made in 2014," Kenispaev said, answering a question concerning liability for the use of a mobile phone when driving, BNews.kz reports.
"Considering offenses that have resonance, when a driver drives a vehicle with no license or in a state of intoxication, we would like to note that these administrative violations from 1 January 2015 were transferred to the category of criminal," Kenispaev noted.
