The road across the Georgian-Russian border has been closed for almost two weeks, on some parts of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway the danger of avalanches persists.
At the Mljet-Gudauri post on the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road, movement was restored both ways, but buses and trailers are prohibited from moving.
Also prohibited is the movement of all types of vehicles in the areas of Gudauri-Kobi and Stepantsminda-Lars (Daryalskoe Gorge), and in the areas of Mljet-Gudauri and Kobi-Stepantsminda it is permissible to drive with anti-skid chains. The road is open for vehicles with two or more chains.
For vehicles with trailers, semitrailers and buses with a capacity of more than 30 seats movement is not allowed along the 35-73 km (Tkibuli-Ambrolauri) of the Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri road, and for other modes of transport movement is allowed only with anti-skid chains, reports the Department of Highways, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia on Monday, January 12th.
For all types of vehicles the 173-188 km section of the Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili highway is closed. At the 30-173 km section (Djvari-Kala) movement is prohibited for trucks with trailers, semitrailers and buses with a capacity of more than 30 seats. For passenger cars the road is open on the 1-90 km section, and on the 91-173 km section movement is permissible with anti-skid chains. For vehicles with two or more chains the road is open, Novosti-Georgia reports.
In an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza the editor of the magazine Georgian Economy, Emzar Jgerenaia, stressed that the current Georgian leadership should do all in its power to ensure that the Georgian Military road is always open.
