A court in Dubai sentenced on Monday two men to life in prison for involvement in the murder of the commander of a Russian Defense Ministry battalion in Chechnya, RIA Novosti said.
Sulim Yamadayev, a Hero of Russia who commanded the elite Vostok Battalion in Chechnya, was shot dead in Dubai on March 28, 2009. He was killed in the car park of a luxury apartment complex where he lived with his family.
Tajik businessman Makhsudzhon Ismatov and Iranian Mahdi Lorniya were accused of planning the murder and aiding the killer.
A “life sentence” in the United Arab Emirates is limited to 25 years behind bars. After this, the two will be deported to their homelands.
Lorniya was earlier employed in Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov's stables.
