UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and heads of major agencies and worldwide organizations have invited internet users to take part in a new campaign on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the bloody conflict in Syria. The campaign, called 'What Does It Take?', takes place on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
"In 2013, the heads of UN agencies sent a message saying 'ENOUGH' to the crisis in Syria. But the crisis continues - it is entering its fifth year on 15 March. With no end in sight, we ask what does it take for those with political influence to end this senseless suffering once and for all?" TASS cited the message posted on the official website.
To access the site you need to take a picture with a sign reading 'What Does It Take?' in your hands and publish a picture in one of these social networks, accompanied by the hashtag #WhatDoesItTake and a short message of solidarity with the Syrian people.
"Four years of tremendous suffering. What Does It Take to put an end to the cycle of violence in Syria?" UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, undersecretary general Valerie Amos, UNICEF executive director Anthony Lake, the head of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan, the UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura have taken a picture with signs with these words written on them.
The official representative of the secretary general, Stephen Dyuzharrik, said that its purpose us "to send a signal of solidarity with the Syrian people."
"Syrians need peace now - they need to know that the world is committed to securing their children’s future," Valerie Amos said.
