Russian customs chief says executives learn a lot from Azerbaijani colleagues

Andrey Belyanov, the head of the Russian Federal Customs Service, said in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza today that his executives were learning a lot from their Azerbaijani counterparts. He called relations between the customs institutions of Russia and Azerbaijan very positive. Belyanov said that he had visited Baku this year and discussed the opening of a corridor for Azerbaijani food to Russia to minimize the time needed for its delivery to consumers.

The customs chief called Azerbaijani officers IT-advanced and organized. In his words, some technologies employed in Azerbaijan will be put to use in Russia. Belyayev called his Azerbaijani counterpart Aydyn Aliyev a doyen among the customs authorities of CIS countries.

Ten days ago, the boards of the Russian and Armenian customs services held a meeting in Armenia, an unprecedented event attended by Armenian customs officers, according to Belyayev. The meeting was focused on simplification of customs procedures.

The Russian customs chief invited colleagues from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, the latter being on its way into the Eurasian Economic Union, to partake in the board. Belyayev expressed regret that Ukrainian colleagues had stopped paying visits, leaving most existing issues unresolved.
