After a round-table discussion on the preservation and development of national languages organized by the All-Russian Social Movement 'Russian Congress of the Caucasus Peoples', the head of the movement, Ali Totorkulov, said that the study of national languages has become quite a topical problem today in Russia.
The head of the Lermontov dynasty, the president of the Lermontov Heritage Association, the head of the Culture Commission of the Moscow Public Chamber, Mikhail Lermontov, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the State Council and the Council for Culture under the President signed the foundations of state cultural policy. "There are very specific, direct obligations on the state to engage in the promotion of national languages and literature in these foundations."
As Totorkulov said, "there used to be a wonderful practice of Russian translations of the works of national writers," which no longer exists, but there is the "problem of preservation of the language".
"All the teachers complain that children constantly use gadgets and phones and no one reads. But I think there is a misunderstanding that these new technologies are also a good thing," Totorkulov said.
As Totorkulov noted, de jure national languages alongwith Russian have the status of governmental languages in the republics of the North Caucasus, and training and record-keeping should be carried out in these languages.
According to him, to prevent the growth of such sentiments, "it is necessary to maintain culture, literature, including Russian, of course. And all other languages, literature and culture," he concluded.
