Saint Petersburg Metro to display posters about Kazakhstani WWII heroes

The Saint Petersburg Metro is launching the 'Victory - one for everyone' campaign to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Great Victory. The first metro carriage with posters of Kazakhstani WWII heroes has set off to the Avtovo Station, RIA Novosti reports.

The project was initiated by the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Saint Petersburg to pay tribute to the heroes and preserve the true historical facts about the war.

People in the metro will learn about the gallantry of Talgat Begeldinov, Alia Moldagulova and Manshuk Mametova, Panfilov's guardsmen and Kazakhstani soldiers sieging the Reichstag, evacuation of Kazakhstani industry from the European part of the USSR and other notable events.

Leningrad (modern Saint Petersburg) was receiving aid from Kazakhstan during the blockade. A poster depicts photos of presents being collected for the city. Another poster reminds about the akim Jambul who was encouraging the population of the besieged city.
