Trains were halted on the "red" subway line (the Sokolnicheskaya line)
today, due to a prayer service, carried out by Patriarch Kirill, for
the terrorist attacks that took place in Moscow on 29th March, radio
station Echo Moskvi (Echo of Moscow) reports, citing the
press-secretary of Moscow's subway, Svetlana Tsariova.
The Patriarch used the escalator opposite the "Biblio-Globus" shop to
descend into the metro. He approached the place of the tragedy and,
before starting the prayers, he expressed words of support for the
victims' relatives. After the prayer he laid a wreath at the scene of
the tragedy. Relatives of the victims brought photographs of the
deceased with them, RIA Novosti reports.
"My heart demanded that I came down here, to the place where innocent
blood was shed, to send prayers to God" - Kirill said.
"And if we learn to unite our lives and prayers, work hard and provide
security, order and high discipline in our labors and life, we will
overcome not only terrorism, but lots of other things as well, that
impede our sane and dynamic social development", - he added.
The Patriarch said that prayers carry great power and "people that
pray know this very well."
He added that today (the Day of Rejoicing) people traditionally visit
churches and cemeteries and pray for the deceased.
"In the Kremlin, in the Archangel Cathedral, we prayed for those who
were innocently killed in the Moscow subway by someone's evil will". -
Kirill said.
Kirill calls people to pray for the people who died in Park Cultury
metro station and in hospitals. He thanked all people for the united
prayer and apologized for "holding up the subway".
Dmitry Gaev, head of Moscow's subway, Sergey Baidakov, Moscow's Deputy Mayor in the Moscow Government, and Liudmilla Shvetsova, the Mayor's First Deputy, were also present.
