Food not to blame for infecting schoolchildren in Goryachiy Kluch
The school children hospitalized in late October in the resort town of
Goryachiy Kluch in the Krasnodar region might have been exposed to an
intestinal infection by a dishwasher, RIA Novosti reports, referring
to the deputy head of the regional Federal Service for Supervision and
Protection of Consumers’ Rights, Tatyana Shevyrova.
According to the Krasnodar regional prosecutor's office, 18 pupils
aged from 10 to 15 years arrived at the hospital with a diagnosis of
gastroenterocolitis, of whom ten were hospitalized, with the others
receiving outpatient treatment.
The chief physician of the hospital, Alexander Tarasov, today rejected
information that the children had been diagnosed with
gastroenterocolitis. He argues that all the schoolchildren have
different preliminary diagnoses, mainly “non-infectious
gastroenteritis” and “reactive pancreatitis.”
“The analysis shows that only four of the ten schoolchildren are
carrying an intestinal infection. In addition, the causative agent of
the intestinal infection was detected in a catering employee – the
dishwasher,” Shevyrova said, adding that the final test results will
be ready on Wednesday.
According to her, the catering employee has been “temporarily
suspended from work.”
In her view, food has nothing to do with it, as while about 1,200
people used the cafeteria, only ten were hospitalized.
