A cloud of ash from the eruption of a volcano in Iceland is approaching Moscow, meteorologists say.
“Moscow is half surrounded by finely divided particles”, ITAR-TASS reports, citing the head of the meteorological agency Rosgidromet Marina Petrova.
“We sent information to Rosaviacia (Russian Aviation) and Rosaeronavigacia (Russian Air Navigation) and they are currently resolving the problem of using Russian airspace,” - Petrova noted.
She said that, “the issue of every flight will be solved quickly, taking into account planes with different technical features”.
Petrova added that the cloud’s density “is reducing naturally”, because ash particles are depositing.
“Particles of volcanic ash may shut down a plane’s engine. Now it is a matter of how critical it is for aviation flights”, Petrova notified.
So far, only flights to Western Europe have been hit at Moscow’s airports.
