A Turkish dry-cargo vessel sank in the Sea of Marmara near the Asian
coast of Istanbul on Wednesday after a storm. There are no victims,
and the four crew members were saved, the local authorities say, RIA
Novosti reports.
The NTV channel said that the wind speed reached 60 kilometres per
hour. The vessel's mooring cable broke, resulting in the vessel
crashing into the coast and sinking.
The storm started on Tuesday around Istanbul. Several naval cruises
were cancelled. Approximately 40 Turkish and foreign vessels failed to
pass the Dardanelles Strait in the first half of Wednesday. Some major
tankers were not permitted to enter the Sea of Marmara and the
Bosporus, the local media say.
Meteorology services say that the storm will continue on Thursday:
there will be less wind, but heavy rain is expected in Istanbul.
