Russian Armenian Union calls for suppression of nationalistic riot

The Russian Armenian Union has published a declaration related to the
events in Moscow of 11 December 2010, expressing concern at the
unsanctioned protests of "football fans", held under nationalistic
slogans, which turned into an open revolt against the law-enforcers.

The message expressed regret at the massive unrest, which resulted in
the beatings and hospitalization of over 30 people. In the
declaration, the union expresses confidence that the actions of
nationalistic movements need to be punished. The message urges
Armenians to avoid provocations or participation in unsanctioned
protests.

The Russian Armenian Union will continue supporting the strengthening
of unity and solidarity of youth, the establishment of an atmosphere
of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of a multiethnic
Russia and its further progress and prosperity, the message sent to
Vetnik Kavkaza says.

Vice-President of the Russian Armenian Union, Lusik Gukasyan, said
that two Armenians, 15-year old teenagers Gagik and Ruben, were
injured in the fights on Manezhnaya Square in Moscow on December 11.
They were both attacked at a birthday in a café. The video recorded in
the café shows that their Russian friends were attacked as well. The
police helped prevent a tragedy.
