Investigators believe technical failure and crew error are the two most probable causes of the emergency crash-landing of a Tupolev Tu-154 plane at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, a source close to the investigation said on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.
The Dagestan-bound plane made an emergency landing at Domodedovo several minutes after taking off from another Moscow airport, Vnukovo, on December 4. Two passengers died and 80 were injured when the aircraft veered off the runway and broke into several pieces.
In an interview with Russian business daily Kommersant, the plane's pilot-in-command ruled out that the accident was a result of the plane having technical problems before take-off or the low quality of fuel.
Specialists from the CIS flight safety watchdog have begun studying the voice-recorders from air traffic controllers and the plane's crew, the Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) said on Monday. MAK specialists are also studying fuel samples from the plane.
