Russia will not establish a structure for problems of nationalities,
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told the State Council in Moscow,
RIA Novosti reports.
He also called for a clear migration policy with a clear registration
process. The movement of citizens within the country will not be
blocked, but will be controlled. The president said that there will be
no formation of china-towns.
The idea of establishing a specialized agency for nationalities came
after the events on Manezhnaya Square in Moscow on December 11. Mass
disorders were provoked by the release of people involved in a fight
with a Spartak football club fan, Yegor Sviridov, who was killed in
the fight. Radical youths in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don
started pogroms. Many people were injured. Nationalistic slogans were
witnessed.
