The Georgian prosecutor general has launched a criminal probe into a
candidate for mayor in Tbilisi from the oppositional National Council
Sviad Dzidziguri on charges of 'hooliganism', News Georgia reports.
According to prosecutor Levan Makharashvili, the investigation cannot
present any detailed information to the press.
On Thursday, the candidate for Tbilisi mayor Zviad Dzidziguri went up
to young people putting up campaign posters for the Ruling National
Movement and insulted them before firing four shots.
Zviad called journalists who subsequently tried to clarify the
situation "minions of nationalists and Saakashvili".
According to witnesses the candidate was drunk. Dzidziguri was one of
supporters of Georgian first president.
