Court case on Nalchick attack not to be heard by jury

The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria has denied a request to
transfer the case of the attack on Nalchick in 2005 to a jury trial,
reports RIA Novosti.
During the attack by militants on Nalchik on October 13th -14th,
twelve civilians and 35 law-enforcement officers were killed, 95
militants were shot dead as well.
The request for a case transfer was initiated by Azamat Akhubekov,
with 42 suspects supporting the request, but the court decided it
contradicts the decision of a judge of February 20th, 2009, according
to which the case should be heard by a court consisting of three
judges.
The judge explained that, according to the law, a collegiate court of
three judges meets the rights of the suspect to an objective,
unprejudiced hearing of case in reasonable terms.
