Borders for construction of the Elbrus-Bezengi resort in the special economic zone of Kabardino-Balkaria have been set, RIA Dagestan reports.
A related document was signed by Russian Deputy Minister for Economic Development Oleg Savelyev, President of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov and local administration heads of the Cherek, Chegemsky and Elbrus Districts.
The land lots will total 26,000 hectares. Borders of five SEZs for recreation and tourism have been set on the territory of the North Caucasus Tourism Cluster. The Arkhyz resort will cover 30,000 hectares in the Zelenchuksky District of Karachay-Cherkessia, Mamison - 84,000 hectares in the Alagirsky and Irafsky Districts of North Ossetia, Matlas - 10,000 in the Khunzakhsky District of Dagestan, Lagonaki - over 36,000 hectares, 15,000 of which will be in the Maikopsky District of Adygeya, 21,000 in the Apsheronsky District of Krasnodar Territory. According to government decree N833, the North Caucasian Federal District, Krasnodar Territory and Adygeya in Russia's south will have 6 tourism and recreation SEZs.
The North Caucasus Tourism Cluster project of 2011-2020 will have 5 ski resorts built: Lagonaki (Krasnodar Territory, Adygea), Arkhyz (Karachay-Cherkessia), Elbrus-Bezengi (Kabardino-Balkaria), Mamison (North Ossetia - Alania) and Matlas (Dagestan). Ski routes will exceed 1000km in length, there will be 214 elevators, hotel rooms for over 83,000 and an annual capacity of 150,500 visitors. Over 330,000 workplaces will be created.
