‘Battle for the Caucasus’ quest takes place all over Russia

‘Battle for the Caucasus’ quest takes place all over Russia

The ‘Victory Volunteers’ movement has organized a special historical quest on the eve of the anniversary of the beginning of one of the most important battles in the Great Patriotic War – the Battle for the Caucasus. The quest took place today in 85 regions of Russia.

Recall that the Battle for the Caucasus began on July 25th, 1942 and lasted up to October 9th, 1943 when the 56th Army captured the entire northern part of the Taman Peninsula and reached the Kerch Strait.

It is difficult to overestimate the significance of the North Caucasus and Azerbaijan during the war, as the city on the Caspian Sea was the main source of oil, and Kuban and the Caucasus became the main suppliers of grain after the loss of Ukraine. Therefore, the loss of the Caucasus could reverse the whole course of events in the Great Patriotic War, turning the balance to Hiller’s side.

According to the coordinator at the ‘70th anniversary of the Victory’ Volunteer Corps, Azamat Azubekov, the quest ‘The Battle for the Caucasus’ in Kabardino-Balkaria was a mixture of sporting and intellectual tasks during which children learn more about historical facts of the Battle for the Caucasus.

The quest started in Nalchik. It was attended by 150 young people. The live transmission was available on the website of the central headquarters of the ‘Volontery Pobed’ All-Russian Public Movement.

In Sochi, the quest participants competed in shooting. They also needed to decrypt the report, compare the name of the weapon with an image and overcome a series of obstacles.

In Volgograd, the team of the ‘Nadezhda’ search group from Gorodishchenskoye area won the first place. The participants’ tasks were a reconstruction of a war picture and an overcoming of a maze.

"All children’s grandparents and forefathers participated in Great Patriotic War, but they were not involved in the Battle for the Caucasus. But it is necessary to know the history of the Great Patriotic War. The memory of all the fallen heroes obliges us," the ‘Nadezhda’ team captain said.
