Today, Russia celebrates Airborne Forces Day. The birthday of the Airborne Forces is considered to be August 2, 1930, when an assault division consisting of 12 men was dropped by parachute near Voronezh for the first time during the exercises of the Moscow Military District. The formation of the airborne units began in 1932, initiating the mass deployment of this kind of troops.
In the morning, the festive events were held on Red Square and Ilyinka Street, blessed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, with the support of the Airborne Forces Command of the Russian Federation, government of Moscow and a number of other organizations.
