Airborne Forces Day and Ilya's Day are celebrated in Russia today.
Both holidays fall on August 2. It was on this day in 1930 that a group of paratroopers landed in Voronezh for the first time.
On the same day, August 2, the day of remembrance of the Prophet Ilya is celebrated. He is considered the the Patron of Russian Airborne Forces.
The traditional event on the day of the 94th anniversary of the creation of the Airborne Forces took place in the center of Moscow. The paratroopers and veterans walked in a religious procession, which began on Ilyinka Street and ended on Red Square. There, a prayer was held on the Lobnoye Mesto.
