Georgia, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Dagestan, Georgian wine

After seven years of embargo, Georgian wines and brandies are returning to the Russian market. Winemaking is a Georgian national pride. Manufacturers from Georgia are interested in the Russian market and understand that they will have to conquer certain categories of consumers, especially the young.

Georgian wines and brandies disappeared from the shelves of Russian stores in 2006, and during this time our consumers had become bored by their taste. The fact that now Georgian wine and brandy have returned to the Russian market is connected with the entry of Russia into the WTO and the improvement of bilateral relations because of the change of the ruling coalition in Georgia following the parliamentary elections of 2012.

Georgia is one of the main centers of origin of the grapevine and the birthplace of winemaking. On the territory of Georgia grapeleaf prints of past geological eras have been found. During archaeological excavations, jars with grape seeds, stone presses, apiaries and various wine vessels made of clay and metal related to the IX-X millennium BC have been found. In Georgia local grape varieties are bred, and there is a natural zoning on the vine varieties.
