Why is NATO regrouping forces and means?

The head of the Department for European Security at the Institute of Europe, Vice-President of the Russian Association for European Studies Dmitry Danilov, told why NATO at the moment is regrouping its forces and means. April 4 marked the 66th anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty, which introduced a system of common defense between 12 states in order to "protect Europe from the Soviet sphere of influence." Over time, the number of NATO members has increased to 28. Today NATO is intensifying its grouping in Eastern Europe, at which additional American troops have been thrown, conducting large-scale exercises near Russia's borders, planning to double the capacity of response forces, and individual members of the Alliance are declaring their readiness to deliver lethal weapons to Kiev.
