Why is NATO interested in Montenegro?

The Head of the Investigative Journalism Department of the Joint ria.ru Directorate, Veronica Krashenninikova, speaking about the latest stage of NATO expansion, spoke about why the North Atlantic Alliance is interested in Montenegro joining it. In mid-October rallies against the Republic joining NATO were held in the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. People were demanding the resignation of the government. The rally culminated in the dispersal of the protesters by police, who used tear gas and stun grenades, even the vice-speaker of the parliament was among the victims.
