World Press on Iran, Turkey and the Caucasus (February 2, 2011)

Today The Washington Post published an article  by David Ignatius headlined «The Arab revolution grows up» devoted to the current situation in the Arab world and  in the Middle East in general. According to the author, at the heart of the current Arab crisis is the inability of leaders to deliver on reforms they knew were necessary. Ignatius believes that the USA should encourage people“s struggle for democracy in the region.

«Despite his failures, Boris Yeltsin deserves his monument», an article with such a headline was published recently by The Guardian. «The late Russian president inadvertently brought misery rather than the positive change he promised – but he was a democrat», says the author. According to him, the first President of Russia deservev a statue, even though his presidency was a very harsh time for the country, for he was a true supporter of democracy.

The New York Times has recently published an article by Thomas Friedman headlined «B.E., Before Egypt. A.E., After Egypt». Friedman underlines that the situation in Egypt can alter the balance in the Middle East for stable Israeli-Egyptian relations were an essential part of the regional political configuration. Speaking about the fears of Islamism, he admits that Muslim Brotherhood will become stronger, though it“s not evident how much.

The Moscow Times publish an article by out-standing Russian journalist Yulia Latynina entitled «The New Iron Curtain». The current upheavals in Egypt might signal the start of a new chapter in world history, thinks Latynina. According to her, a new Iron Curtain is rapidly descending over the Middle East. «Any revolution in Egypt will be fundamentalist in nature. It will have a domino effect, leading to fundamentalist revolutions in the region and creating a new geopolitical reality that is only a little less scary and tense than was the confrontation between communism and capitalism in the 20th century,» says Latynina.

Hurriyet has published an article headlined «Is the Arab Spring Israel's nightmare?» devoted  to the current situation in the Middle East. According to the author stability in the region will not last long. This stability was based on dictatorship and is becoming less and less popular. The author thinks that the most unlucke party is Israel that is growing more and more worried about the unfolding drama.

Today The Jerusalem Post published an article entitled «Tough choices for Jordan’s King Abdullah» . Speaking about the recent desicion of Jordan King to sake the Government of the country, the author supports an opinion that the current events in Egupt will change the situation in the whole region and alter the blance of power in the Middle East.
