"As Tension Escalates, Turkey Issues a Ban on All Syrian Aircraft" is
an article published by the New York Times on Sunday, October 14. The
Turkish government has banned all Syrian aircraft entering Turkey's
airspace one day after Syria banned Turkish aircraft from entering its
airspace.
"Turkey and Syria share a 500-mile border that is quickly becoming a
fault line in what many fear could be an expansion of the civil war
into a regional conflict," the authors of the article, Sebnem Arsu and
Michael Schwirtz, state.
On the same day the British newspaper the Telegraph published an article
titled "Syria Turkey spat continues as they both ban civilian
flights".
The article focuses on the recent accusation that Syria is using cluster
bombs banned from use by many countries except for Russia, China and
United States. Describing hostilities between Turkey and Syria, it
concludes: "As the fighting reaches its frontier Turkey has reportedly
bolstered its defences by deploying 250 tanks and 55 jets of
various models along the southern part of its border. 'We will hit
back without hesitation if we believe Turkey's national security is in
danger,' said Mr Davutoglu."
